Buchanan the Western Painted Turtle came to us in January of 2022 as an adult turtle found on a local box store shelf. Clearly had to have been someone’s pet. We fixed up his shell and then due to his friendliness we chose to keep him as an animal ambassador. Buchanan has been sponsored and named by Ryan Roth in memory and honor of the late Tim Buchanan. Tim was a huge nature lover, advocate of clean waterways and spent a great deal of time enjoying life on the Maumee. He has no red on him which is how you can tell the difference between him and our Midland Painted Turtle.
