
Website Nature's Nursery
Purpose:
Docents will work with other volunteers and staff to assist with tours of the facility. The goals of the Docents are to make sure animals and Nature’s Nursery are kept secure and guests receive a positive experience while the center is open to the public.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Presenting educational tours to the public following Nature’s Nursery’s mission, procedures, and policies.
- Providing guests with information about wildlife with the focus of coexistence
- Keeping the Ambassador Animals on display safe from potential hazards
- Attend Education Training Courses on Mammals, Herps, Songbirds, Birds of Prey, Docent
Minimum Requirements:
- At least 16 years’ old
- Attend Volunteer Orientation and training once per year
- Able to read and follow directions
- Must work well with others as well as independently
- Comfortable with seeing/handling feeder rodents and other feeder animals, often cut up
- Able to handle harsh animal smells and cleaning products
- Able to bend, squat, and lift/carry 10-15lbs comfortably
- Basic computer skills
- Up to date Tetanus vaccination
- Be willing to adopt, support, and communicate the mission of Nature’s Nursery
- Rabies Vaccine helpful, but not necessary
Time Commitment:
- Hours are dependent on when the center is open to the public or during special events/ fundraisers
