
Website Nature's Nursery
Purpose:
The Program Volunteer will work with other volunteers and staff to assist with educational programming, program development, and care of Animal Ambassadors at Nature’s Nursery. The goal of the Program Volunteer is to be able to present programs on their own without the Education Director. There is also the option of being a Program Assistant Volunteer for those who do not wish to speak but can help prep and clean up from programs, handle Ambassadors, walk around educational materials and assist the Education Director or Programming Volunteer.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Presenting educational programs to the public following Nature’s Nursery’s mission, procedures, and policies.
- Assist Education Director with programs (this can be helping carry animals and items to presenting programs on your own if comfortable)
- Cleaning and prepping transport cages for programs and gathering activity supplies
- Developing innovative programs and program materials
- Follow animal handling procedures and policies
- Attend Education Training Courses on Mammals, Herps, Songbirds, Birds of Prey, Programming, Animal Handling
Minimum Requirements:
- At least 18 years’ old
- Attend Volunteer Orientation and training once per year
- Able to read and follow directions
- Be able to drive their own car to program potentially with animals
- Must work well with others as well as independently
- Comfortable with seeing/handling feeder rodents and other feeder animals, often cut up
- Able to handle harsh animal smells and cleaning products
- Able to bend, squat, and lift/carry 10-15lbs comfortably
- Basic computer skills
- Up to date Tetanus vaccination
- Rabies vaccination not necessary, but would be helpful
- Be willing to adopt, support, and communicate the mission of Nature’s Nursery
Time Commitments:
- Hours are variable as programs can be at any time of day and some things can be done at home
- At least 12 hours a month (not including animal handling training)
