
Website Nature's Nursery
Purpose:
The Day Keeper Volunteer will work with other volunteers and staff to complete the daily tasks required to care for rehab animals at Nature’s Nursery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Clean food and water dishes and replace with fresh food and water
- Wash food cups and refill with dry food
- Clean enclosures of waste and replace with fresh food and water according to protocol
- Hose down waterfowl enclosures as well as drain and refill pond as needed
- Dress for elements and protect self from sun or cold depending on season
- Make sure all animals are accounted for in each enclosure
- Communicate with staff on anything noticed to ensure animals well-being
- Operate the “E Ride” to transport things to the outside enclosures
- Enter animal care and make notes in RaptorMed chart regarding food intake, behavior, etc.
- Notify staff of any animal issues
Minimum Requirements:
- At least 18 years old
- Attend Volunteer Orientation and training once per year
- Able to read and follow directions
- Must work well with others as well as independently
- Comfortable with seeing/handling feeder rodents and other feeder animals, often cut up
- Able to handle harsh animal smells and cleaning products
- Able to bend, squat, and lift 10-15lbs comfortably
- Basic computer skills
- Up to date Tetanus vaccination
- Rabies vaccination not necessary, but would be helpful
- Be willing to adopt, support, and communicate the mission of Nature’s Nursery
Time Commitments:
- Available 10:00 AM-2:00 PM one day per week (subject to change)
- During busy season top-off shift may be available also from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM
