Rehab-Avian Volunteer
The purpose of this program is to care and feed for injured or orphaned songbirds following
protocols in place to stop the spread of Avian Influenza (H5N1). This position will be done at the
Schadel Road location for the 2024 busy season.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Food prep
● Feed bab ybirds at 30-minute intervals (tong or tube-fed)
● Clean cages
● Follow proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and quarantine protocols, if needed
● Restock
● Communicate with staff frequently
● Ability to handle sick, injured, fragile birds and death

Minimum Requirements:
● At least 18years old
● Pass a background check through Sterling Volunteers ($19 cost)
● Attend Volunteer Orientation and training once per year
● Able to read and follow directions
● Must work well with others as well as independently
● Comfortable seeing/handling feeder animals and insects
● Able to handle harsh animal smells and cleaning products
● Able  to bend, squat, and lift/carry 10-15 lbs comfortably
● Basic computer skills
● Documented proof of an up to date Tetanus immunization
● Be willing to adopt, support, and communicate the mission of Nature’s Nursery
Time Commitments:
● 8:30AM-12:00PM,12:00 PM-3:30 PM, 3:30-7:00 PM daily at least once a week
● Commit to one shift per week on a regularly scheduled basis
