Bird Study Merit Badge

Birds are fascinating creatures who lend beauty and music to our lives. Living in North West Ohio, we are a mecca for migrating warblers and waterfowl. Join us at Nature’s Nursery for a close up observation of local songbirds and raptors in our classroom and complete requirements for this badge. Session 2 will be a meet up at a local park to complete a birding field trip. This interactive program supports Scouts working on the Bird Study Merit Badge by covering bird characteristics, adaptations, habitats, behaviors, and ethical wildlife observation. Participants will practice observation and scientific inquiry skills while learning about conservation and coexistence with wildlife. A registered Bird Study Merit Badge Counselor is available to help Scouts meet applicable badge requirements.

Class Details:

• The address is 7541 Dutch Road, Waterville, OH 43566. DO NOT type in Nature’s Nursery into your GPS, it will take you to our old location.
• Part 1 will take place on the Davey Moore Education Center (7541 Dutch Road, Waterville, OH 43566) side of the building but space will be limited with spots secured for those who register. There are signs that say “stop” as ailing wildlife should not enter that side of the building.
• Doors will be unlocked 15 minutes before the class so attendees have time to shop in the merch store and get settled. Presentation will begin at 4:30PM and end around 7:30PM. There will also be time after the class to purchase merch.
• At this time, we are only accepting CARD, PAYPAL, or VENMO. We do not have cash for change on-site.
• Part 2 will take place at Farnsworth Metropark. 650 S River Rd, Waterville, OH 43566. Make sure you go to the Roche De Bout Area parking lot. If you just type into your GPS ‘Farnsworth Park’ it will take you to the wrong location.

Class Disclaimers:

• We are 501c3 non-profit and rely on your monetary and in-kind donation support for funding as we do not receive any local, state or federal taxes.
• If a program is canceled due to weather restrictions from the Lucas County sheriff (Level 3 and potentially 2) the class will be rescheduled. You will be notified via email from the Education Director with more information.
• If you miss a program, or have any questions, please reach out to the Education Director at jforbush@natures-nursery.org within 24 hours and she will sign you up for another class of equal value if it is available at the time or it can be considered it as a donation to the center.
• Photos may be taken during the class, if you or your child do not want to be photographed please let a volunteer or staff person know before the class.
• For our hearing sensitive participants, we do have loud animals in the building that get overly excited when they see people.
• If the program is before 1:00PM, please be mindful of volunteers and staff who are caring for the animals.
• These animals are wild, and therefore you may see animals eating things such as worms, bugs, frozen-thawed rodents, fish and quail. We also feed animals peanuts, please be cautious of this while onsite.
